If you missed it, Tuesday night I spoke on my show about the shooting that happened in Bricktown following the OKC Thunder win over the LA Lakers. Here's what I had to say:
Here is a transcript of the audio:
I rarely if ever give my opinion on events on my show because I believe that it’s my job to play hit music, give away cool stuff, and entertain you. However, given the events that happened last night in Bricktown after a great Thunder win over the LA Lakers to move on the Western Conference Finals, I can’t stay quiet about this. I’ve grown up and lived in Oklahoma my entire life. I went to grade school, high school, and college in this state, and now have a family of my own that lives in the metro area. I’ve been blessed in my life to have been able to travel to other parts of the country and even the world, but there is something about Oklahoma that keeps me here. Simply put, it is my home. In my 29 years, I’ve seen many vast improvements to this state and especially Oklahoma City, and for some punk kid who doesn’t know self control to get into a fight and shoot 8 random people is not only pathetic, but a black eye on this city.
From what I’ve heard on the news, there were two groups of people, males and females and mostly juveniles, which were down in the area of the Bricktown Ballpark. They started fighting over God knows what, and some idiot thought the best way to settle the argument was to pull a gun and start shooting. Do you know how sad and pathetic that is? That you weren’t taught enough self control and respect for human life that you feel the need to take someone’s life over what was very likely a petty and useless argument? What makes me even angrier is that it was done at a time when there were several thousand people in the area, including children that could have been killed by this selfish person’s actions.
To the person or person’s who did the shooting…you’re pathetic. I’m sorry, but there is no other way to put it. To endanger the lives of others because the only way you know how to settle an argument is to start shooting is both sad and shameful. There are many ways to resolve an argument and pulling out a gun is not the way to do it. I’m sorry that you have no self control and that you weren’t taught better in your life how to handle the tough times, but to shoot 8 people and nearly kill one of them because you got mad at someone else over whatever you were arguing about is reprehensible. You have made this city look bad in the national media at a time when we should be shining because of what not only this city, but our Oklahoma City Thunder, have accomplished. Whether it was one person or a group of people, I hope that whoever is responsible is arrested and spends a long time in jail. You deserve it, and our city is better off without you.
