As I mentioned a while back, I'm on an ultra low-carb diet commonly known as a "Keto" diet. I've been doing the diet for the past 5 months and I've been having a lot of success with it! I've lost somewhere in the realm of 50 pounds and my waist has been one of the things that has been shrinking quite a bit.
Since I was probably 15 until now, I've always been wearing pants that were size 42 or larger, with emphasis on the larger part. In fact, for all of my 20's I was wearing pant sizes between 48 and 50. Buying pants/jeans/shorts was always difficult because I had to typically find places that would sell bigger sizes or more often than not, buy online.
Last weekend I was out shopping with my wife and we stopped at a clothing store. I found some shorts from a brand that I like and had previously bought in a size 50. I knew that I was somewhere in the size 42 range in shorts now, but all I could find were size 40. I was bummed, but my wife encouraged me to at least go and try them on because everyone makes pants a little different and you never know. So I took them into the dressing room expecting them to not fit and guess what?? THEY DID!! I was so happy and couldn't believe that I actually fit into size 40 pants. For the first time in a lot of years, I feel normal and like I can go clothes shopping at any store. It was a wonderful feeling and total validation for what I've been doing with my weight loss and this diet on those days when I feel like I haven't made any progress at all.
So, how do these new shorts look compared to my old ones? Bear in mind, when I was at my highest weight ever which was likely somwhere near 400 pounds, the size 50 shorts fit me comfortably. In fact, they were my most comfortable and loved shorts I owned because they fit me so well. Now, I can't even wear them they're so big (even with a belt)! They're the same brand - Nautica - and same colors so the comparison below is perfect in terms of how the shorts are cut and manufactured.
Pretty amazing, huh? I can't wait until I'm down to something like a 36 and can really look back and see how far I've come. Regardless, I'm utterly thrilled that the weight loss is going as well as it has and I'm seeing these kinds of results. I'd say winter clothes shopping this year will be a lot of fun!!
